Hormones: Progesterone

Progesterone is a female hormone of equal importance (as is estrogen) for aging women, although it is commonly overlooked.

Symptoms of low progesterone include:

• Moodiness

• Irritability

• Insomnia

• Bloating

• Headaches

In addition to alleviating these symptoms, bio-identical progesterone is called the “feel good” hormone because most women report an increased sense of well-being soon after they begin taking it. In 2002 a large medical study indicated an increase in breast cancer in women who took the synthetic progesterone, Provera. We now know that taking a bio-identical form of progesterone along with prescribed estrogen, actually protects women from breast cancer.
